Sometimes when we think about church, Bible study, or Christian community, we imagine sitting quietly, listening to a message, taking notes and going home. But what if growing in faith could also look like laughter, friendly competition, unexpected connections and simply having fun together?
That was the heart behind our Rooted Experience Game Night: Bible Edition, held virtually on Google Meet.
The idea was simple: create a space where our community could bond more, get to know one another and experience a different side of Christian fellowship. We wanted to remind ourselves that doing “church things” doesn’t always have to feel serious or predictable. There is room for joy too.
So, we logged into Google Meet, divided ourselves into two teams, Team Bethel and Team Zion, and the competition began.
We played Bible-based games including Two Truths and a Lie, Bible character challenges, Biblical or Not, and verse challenges. And honestly, people came ready!
As the judge and timekeeper, I had a slightly different experience from everyone else. While everyone else was busy figuring out the answers, I was watching the whole thing unfold. I loved seeing how quickly people responded, how seriously some people took their answers, and how competitive the teams became.
There were also those little moments that made the night memorable.
At one point, Mercy was reading the questions when her network started acting up. She had to leave the meeting and rejoin while troubleshooting the issue. It could easily have disrupted the evening, but instead, it became part of the experience. We waited, laughed, figured things out and continued.
And then there was the beautiful part: watching friends and people who were meeting each other for the first time participate together, even though we were all joining from different places and different screens.
As I sat behind my screen watching everyone engage, I found myself thinking about how much I would love to be part of a community like this. A community where you can learn about God’s Word, ask questions, compete over Bible trivia, laugh at your mistakes and still feel like you belong.
Because that’s what Rooted Experience is becoming.
It isn’t simply about gathering people for an event. It is about creating a space where people can learn and grow together.
We often talk about being rooted in Christ, but being rooted also means being connected. We need people around us who can encourage us, challenge us, laugh with us and walk alongside us.
Hebrews 10:24–25 reminds us to consider how we can spur one another on toward love and good deeds and not give up meeting together. Community matters.
And sometimes, community looks like a Bible study.
Sometimes it looks like a deep conversation.
And sometimes, it looks like two teams on Google Meet competing over Bible questions.
By the end of the night, Team Bethel emerged victorious with 19 points, while Team Zion finished with 14 points. Team Bethel had their moment of glory, and Team Zion now has a comeback to plan.
But beyond the score, something more meaningful happened.
We laughed. We connected. We learned. We participated. We became a little less like strangers.
And maybe that’s what makes a community special. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs people who are willing to show up, be present and grow together.
We are learning. We are growing. And we are becoming Rooted.
